Amaipara Pollishree Handicraft Producer Company Ltd

Improved Toolkit

Objective and Significance of the Initiative

The primary objective of this initiative is to equip artisans with essential entrepreneurial skills required to succeed in an increasingly competitive global market. It aligns with the vision of the Government of India to empower artisans through skill development and entrepreneurship, promote self-reliance, and strengthen the presence of traditional handicrafts at both national and international levels.

Additionally, the use of improved tools helps reduce physical strain, contributing to a safer, more sustainable, and dignified working environment. This initiative is in alignment with the broader objectives of the National Handicrafts Development Programme (NHDP), which focuses on skill upgradation, design and product development, technological intervention, and improved market access for artisans across India.

Furthermore, the initiative promotes environmentally responsible and locally rooted practices by supporting Kantha embroidery craft. This not only preserves traditional knowledge but also encourages eco-friendly production practices in the handicrafts sector.

The Producer Company comprises around 650 local women artisans engaged in the traditional craft of Kantha embroidery stitching. At the grassroots level, APHPCL is actively involved in the production and promotion of Kantha embroidery products, preserving this rich heritage craft while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities.
